Audit your Pinterest profile: A step by step guide

An optimised Pinterest profile is essential because it helps you attract the right audience, improve your visibility in search results and establish your brand as a trusted source of inspiration and information.

Let me go into this in more detail:

Better discoverability: Pinterest is a visual search engine, so an optimised profile with the right keywords helps you show up when people search for topics related to your business. This means more traffic to your content and, ultimately, your website.

Attract the right audience: When your profile clearly communicates who you are, what you offer, and how you help, the right people are more likely to follow you, engage with your Pins and take action.

Increase website traffic and sales: A well optimised profile with strategic links (website, shop, blog) makes it easier for users to click through and convert. Pinterest users are often in a buying mindset, so making it effortless for them to take the next step is key.

Build brand authority and trust: A consistent profile with a professional bio, high quality Pins and clear branding makes you look credible and encourages engagement. People are more likely to save, share and interact with your content if they see you as a valuable source.

Boost pin performance: When your profile, boards and Pins are optimised with SEO-friendly descriptions and relevant keywords, Pinterest understands your content better and is more likely to show it to users in search results and recommendations.

Does this sound like something you want for your Pinterest presence? I hope so! The good news is auditing your Pinterest profile to make sure it's in tip top shape is easier than you think. Here are the steps you need to take:

Step 1: Your header image

Review your header image. Does it instantly say what you do or give an insight into your personality? Use either your brand logo or an image of you, your product or service.

Step 2:  Your profile image

Is it easy to scan and understand? Does it establish your brand? If you’ve used an image in your header then I recommend using your brand logo here. Use the same logo across all your marketing channels for consistency.

Step 3: Your username

Ensure your username is memorable and relevant for example mine is Kat - Social Media Marketing. Adding this info makes it so much easier for people to see at a glance what you do when scrolling through search results.

Step 4: Your bio

Use a concise and engaging bio that offers a snapshot of your identity or business. Use keywords that describe what you do to optimise for search and put the good stuff up front. This is because only the first couple of sentences will be visible on your profile unless people click “more.”

Step 5: Claim your website

Claiming your website on Pinterest is crucial because it unlocks powerful features such as access to detailed analytics, that help boost your visibility, credibility and traffic. Pinterest have a step by step guide on how to do this.

Step 6: Optimising board names and descriptions

Recognising the importance of board names and descriptions is crucial for maximising discoverability. Create board names that are not only descriptive but also incorporate relevant keywords. This ensures that your boards appear in searches and attract users interested in your content.

Step 7: Board organisation

Pinterest revolves around boards, making their organisation vital for a successful profile. Evaluate your existing boards and ensure they align with your niche or interests. Create new boards if necessary, focusing on clear and specific themes. You can go one step further by creating and/or updating board covers to match your brand style. This isn’t essential though, always focus on the best use of your time which ultimately is getting your keywords right.

So what are you waiting for? Invest time in auditing your Pinterest presence now and you’ll enjoy the long lasting benefits. I recommend you do this at least once a year to make sure your pins and profile are still aligned with your brand.
